My name is Sarah & I am 31 years old!
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 16 years old. After 13 years of oral medications, injections, and medications via a drip, I had to undergo emergency surgery in 2019 to have my colon removed & an ileostomy formed.
For me, I always thought that having an ileostomy would be the end of the world.
I put off having surgery for years because of the stigmas around having a stoma. However, I was wrong‼
Since my surgery, I have felt the most positive and body confident I have ever felt and this is all because I feel well. I am med free for the first time in 13 years!!
I have really been able to embrace my new body and way of living & I can honestly say I love my new life.
I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been. Before my surgery I was constantly controlled by my disease, but now I feel amazing.
My aim via my social media (positively_stella) platforms is to promote that not every disability is visible, real-life & real bodies. I don’t want to airbrush my rolls, my stretch marks, or my stoma bag. I want to be so completely myself that everyone else feels confident to be themselves too.
I want to educate people about stomas so that if anyone is in a position where they need to have one, they have an honest and open account to look at.
I truly believe every body is worthy and those things on our body make us unique and who we are.
